How does marriage or cohabitation affect your Kela benefits?

Getting married or moving in with a partner affects many benefits from Kela. If you and your partner live together, you belong to the same household.

You do not need to tell Kela if you get married, we are notified of this automatically. A registered partnership affects benefits the same way as a marriage.

Kela card

If you change your name when you get married, Kela will automatically send you a new Kela card. You do not need to report the name change to Kela or apply for a new Kela card.
